More about Dr. Lucey

Dr. Steve Lucey is a native North Carolinian having grown up in Raleigh. He went to Clemson University to play soccer where he won ACC and NCAA Championships. Following that, Dr. Lucey attended the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. His five year orthopedic residency was completed at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem and then Dr. Lucey had the privilege of doing an extra year of training (fellowship) with Dr. John Insall and his team in New York City. Dr. Insall is considered to be the grandfather of knee surgery and is known world-wide for first describing many of the knee surgeries done today including knee replacement and ACL reconstruction.

Dr. Lucey has practiced in Greensboro for 24 years and focuses his practice on the knee and shoulder. His areas of speciality include: sports injuries, ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration, partial and total knee replacement. He has also championed the movement of joint replacement to the outpatient surgery center via a new value-based model of care called bundled payments. Dr Lucey started his own practice in 2014, and has partnered with Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist since that time.

Dr. Lucey is married to Stacey to 30 years and has three children. The Luceys are a close family of faith who love God with their whole hearts. They enjoy His creation together in the mountains as well as beach fishing, hunting, hiking and just being together.
